(2015 – 2020)
Jernej is the Chief Technical Advisor (half time) for the Eco-Corridors Fund in the in the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), a project to introduce EU-like contractual nature conservation measures outside protected areas with WWF Caucasus Programme under the funding from Germany (BMZ through KfW). Jurij and Ana provide technical and expert support when necessary.
Independent assessment of environmental policy in the context of the OECD Competitiveness Outlook 2018 for six South East European economies – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia – which complements the government self-assessment.
WWF Caucasus Programme Office
We worked with the WWF Caucasus Programme Office to develop Forestry Climate Adaptation Strategies for the Adjara and Racha regions of Georgia using a GIS model based on a combination of localised climate models and forests data.
Preparation of a Low Emissions Development Strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina including a roadmap towards meeting EU climate change objectives.
Preparation of a Low Emissions Development Strategy for Kosovo including a roadmap towards meeting EU climate change objectives.
With UNDP Albania, integrated climate objectives into the national and sectorial strategic documents of Albania related to EU accession, including a review of compliance with national, international and EU environmental and climate legislation and policies.
Developed the National Forestry and Wood Processing Strategy for Montenegro, focusing on the development of the wood value chain, integration of conservation objectives and adaptation to climate change. This was the first national strategy in Montenegro to undergo the Strategic Environmental Assessment process.
(2012 – 2013)
Supported the reform of the protected area system in Montenegro and set up of two landscape protected areas (Komovi and Piva), including development of draft management plans. Prepared a management plan for recreational use of the Tara river, part of the Tara river biosphere reserve.
(2007 – 2009)
Led capacity building and involvement of local communities in management planning in the EU-funded technical assistance project for management and protection of potential Natura 2000 sites in the Northern part of Cyprus.
(2006 – 2007)
Led the first EU funded project to implement the Natura 2000 network in Croatia, including capacity building for the State Institute of Nature Conservation, participatory development of draft management plans for two potential Natura 2000 sites and development of the monitoring system for protected areas.
